1979 FLH Electra Glide in patina

The new owner of this bike decided to keep it just as it is, a time capsule of the days of our innocence, so to speak. So we set about making everything work correctly and only cleaned and polished a little bit of it. We repaired the starter system, throw out bearing, kickstand, and manifold electrical issues with the lights, ignition switch and wiring harness. Replaced the drive chain and guard, battery, driver foot pegs, front brake pads and performed a full service, flushed the brake systems, set the ignition timing correctly and tweaked the S&S carburetor. Mounted new tires and found the rear wheel wouldn’t hold air. So we built a new rim and hub with twisted stainless steel spokes, which we also installed in the front wheel to keep everything consistent at the owner’s request. And now I think we have one of the coolest retro rides around RVA!!

Only “before” pic I took.

Yes, the eagle’s eyes light up!

British CB1100

How to make a retro Honda CB1100 even more so? Replace that huge and modern looking muffler with a late model Triumph can!! Took a little bit of ingenuity and my neighbors pipe machine to expand the connector pipe to the correct diameter. Then I cut off the center stand stop bracket and adapted it to the new connector pipe. A little paint to keep it looking clean and we have a sweet set up that truly adds to the vintage flare of this machine! Then I added the correct spacers to allow the peashooter muffler to mount in the original location with proper dampening. Another satisfied customer, not to mention how pleased we were with the final product!!

Stock bike as it came from the dealer.

Still waiting for a short heat shield to cover the connector pipe. Much more stylish and retro than the original!!

Fits like a glove!

Center stand stop welded in place.

Side Car

This is the first side car I’ve worked on since leaving Fort Lauderdale Harley Davidson about twenty-two years ago! I have always enjoyed riding side car rigs, they are a bit more work to handle than a motorcycle but are lots of fun, especially when you “fly” the side hack with a passenger or two that are thrilled, or not…

Better than any fair ride in my opinion! And they certainly attract attention, even non-enthusiasts get a nostalgic kind of joy from seeing it roll down the road, at least that is what I surmise from all the smiles and waves and pointing the bike out to their fellow passengers everywhere I ride it!!

This bike received tons of service, from a top end rebuild to electrical repairs to stopping oil leaks and replacing tires, tubes and wheels to aligning the unit and adding a steering stabiliser. She is good to go and beautiful to behold and ride!!
