Trail of the Trophy

Slowly getting this sweet Trophy back together. I was hot to get back on it since attending the VBMC Rallye this past weekend where the remnant of British bikers filled the air with a glorious symphony of barely muffled exhaust!! My hands were a bit too oily and busy to stop and take more pictures, but I will make the attempt to document the remaining steps a bit more thoroughly…

First step in returning this Trophy Trail to it’s former state of beauty is pulling the engine and repair and replace as necessary. Then we will apply a little bit of spit shine to the cases and covers before moving on to the frame and front end. Someone mated this Japanese front wheel and disc brake system quite poorly to our poor girl, but she’s lucky to have found an avid enthusiast who wants to make her the way she was.

A little condensation in the gearbox... Not a good thing, but it did no permanent damage yet.

With a little help from my friends.

So many folks have helped me with this enterprise in so many ways!! Not the least of which my pal Syke loaned me his homemade work station crafted from used Ducati crates and a little ingenuity!!

The motor needs to come out of this TR5T Trophy Trail so as to clean the sludge trap (basically what we now call an oil filter…) and seal up all the obligatory drippings. This table is perfectly suited for this task, allowing me to work on the Trophy as time permits and continue to take care of smaller jobs on my lift. Win/win!!
